Answers to questions to may not want to ask.

Do I really need a planner for my destination wedding? If you have been to the Big Island several times and know your way around, No. If you know all the great beach spots and can get the correct permits, No. If you can find someone to issue you a license, No. If you know of a minister or someone to marry you, No. If you know where to go to get all the freshest most beautiful flowers, No. If you want to stress yourself out and do all the work at the last minute, No. If you know a photographer that can produce great sunset photos for the most special day of your life, No. If you like being on the phone for hours at a time, talking with hundreds of people before you get a correct answer, No. If you have answered Yes to all the above questions then you will not need a wedding planner. The great thing about a wedding planner is that they take the STRESS out of your day. They can give you experienced advice. Remember, you’ve probably never done this. They have, many times. Use their expertise and relax. Your job is to look beautiful and create wonderful memories of your special day. Not look back and say, “I can’t believe that happened.”

How do I pay for this? Schedule early and make payments if necessary. We require $100 to book your date. The balance is due 30 days prior to the ceremony. Most payments are made over the phone by credit card. A personal check can be mailed to the office. Anytime you want to make a payment just pick up the phone and let us know. We accept personal checks, money orders, cashiers checks, American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and debit cards with credit card emblems.

How do I know you are really there? Yes, I’ve had this question. And you may really want to ask it too, but were afraid. Royal Kona Weddings is a member of the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce. Call the chamber and check us out. We are also a member of Professional Photographers of America. Drop us a post-card and if it comes back to you, don’t send a check. Request references, all the testimonials are real, and they have agreed to accept emails from brides and grooms who are nervous about putting your special day in our hands. Call the Hawaii Department of Taxation; you can pay our bill for us. Yes, we are very real and are here to assist you.

After all I have paid, do I still tip the minister or vendors? Tipping is not expected, but is greatly appreciated. There is no right or wrong amount. If you feel they have done an outstanding job, then by all means show your appreciation.

When is the best time of year to plan our wedding? The best time is whenever it’s best for you. There is no “bad” time in Hawaii. The weather is beautiful, sunny, 85-95 degrees year-a-round with a possible chance of rain. (Our forecasters have it rough over here.) If it rains we can relocate to a covered area, find a chapel, use umbrellas, pick a different time… depending on availability of the vendors, or go back and marry you on the balcony of your hotel… How would I know about that one?

How do I know what to do when I get there? Once you book with Royal Kona Weddings, you are mailed maps of all the locations that are relevant to your wedding day. You will have the necessary phone numbers of everyone involved. You will have phone numbers and cell phone numbers of the wedding planner, the minister, and the license office. Read over the materials provided and design your plan based on the date of your wedding.

Will someone meet us and show us around? If you feel that you cannot find the necessary locations by yourself then someone will show you around. There is a fee for this service so try and navigate alone. Remember, you don’t want to pull a member of the crew away from a bride that is having her wedding that day and needs the attention of the planner. In the early stages of planning your trip to Hawaii, I suggest the book, “Big Island Revealed”. You will need no other resource. You can purchase the book from Borders, Barnes and Nobel, e-bay, Amazon, or go to www.wizardpub.com and order direct.

What if I want to get married on the weekend or a holiday? This is never a problem unless you arrive on the weekend or the holiday you want to get married. Getting your license may be a problem. Be sure to check with your planner for availability of personnel that issue the license. Check the link to MARRIAGE LICENSE on the home page to read about the necessary documentation.

What is appropriate attire for a beach wedding? This is Hawaii and just about anything goes. We’ve preformed ceremonies for couples in tux and traditional gowns to white bikinis with a scarf. The real answer is… whatever you want and you are comfortable in wearing. Please remember is can be very hot and the beaches and chapels are not air conditioned. Many couples want to go with basic “Aloha” wear. You can order tropical wear over the Internet, or if you have time, wait until you arrive and shop downtown.

Is that too many flowers? Absolutely not! You cannot have too many flowers in Hawaii. And, that’s all I’m going to say about that.

It is not our anniversary, but can we still renew our vows? Absolutely! Any day…Everyday is great for a vow renewal. I do suggest that you present your spouse with a small token during the ceremony. Guys… this is the perfect time to upgrade that diamond. We’ve also done many surprise vow renewals. This is a lot of fun. If you’re coming over with family and want someone in your family to do the ceremony let us know. We can mail them what to say, or you can write your vows and let them know what part of the ceremony you wish for them to participate.

We are coming over on a cruise and only have one day in Kona. Can we still get married? Please visit our Cruise Ship Special. This is perfect for you. We’ve had several surprised brides with this one. Remember you can upgrade to add music if you wish. We have a harp player that will come to the beach. This is so romantic!
